Jamaican Bobsled Team Costume

Jamaicans are very proud of their colors which they are not afraid to wear no matter what the occasion. There are many celebrations both locally and internationally and you can be sure that you will see the colors in all its glory.

This is very present in all the sporting events even when Jamaicans are not performing, they will still make their presence known. The Jamaican bobsled team costume in the Jamaican colors, just imagine the pride that these young men felt when they appeared at the Olympics.

When businessmen George Fitch and William Maloney take it upon themselves to form a Jamaica bobsled team, it was met with much skepticism. They had much difficulty as they could not get persons to come forward, but they did not give up after many setbacks. They were now out of options when they decided to present their plan to the Jamaican military.

From this association they get their first members, who are now stalwarts, they were Devon Harris, Michael White and Dudley Stokes. These were true patriotic who was not afraid of challenges and was very proud to represent their beloved country.

There were other members who joined in the initial stage and after much training and hard work, they went to the Winter Olympics. There are some organizations who loved anything that will promote Jamaica and our beautiful colors in costume.

It was not long before the founders got help from other areas to help with training and necessary equipments. They did not have the best of equipment and training was very hard but these brave and determined young men persevered through hard times.

They get help from international coaches and the media was aware of their intentions of going to the Olympics and there was much laughter and criticism. But as most persons know by now the Jamaicans like to add their own flavor and style to anything that they touch.

When the team arrived at their first Winter Olympics that was held in 1988 at, Calvary, it brought a sense of pride to all Jamaicans as the team costume shined in all its glory.

It was not all glory for the team as they crashed at the first games and did not make it to the finish line. But to the fans watching it would seem as if walking to that finishing line was the normal thing. The team decked out in their colorful Jamaican bobsled team costume stepped out of the sled and walked with pride and head held high.

That created an impact on everyone and was such an inspiration; there was even a film that was made. The film was called “Cool Running” even though the characters were fictional, they adorned the team costume and were all decked out in the Jamaican colors.

The crash brought the team much fame alongside the embarrassment, ridicules, jealousy and contempt. But this did not stop them from putting on their costumes and went to other Olympics with strong determination, confidence and focus and was somewhat successful.

This was an inspiration for the team members as most of them overcome the crash and went on to become successful individuals.

They are not afraid to put on their Jamaican bobsled team costume as through all the struggles, failures and fame, they are proud Jamaicans.
